Milan Taylor, the CEO of the Rockaway Youth Task Force, has been working with service organizations for many years. In 2013, Milan Taylor was a semi-finalist to receive a Do Something Award.
The Do Something Award, granted by nonprofit organization Do Something, has been honoring youths ages 25 and under since 1996. Recipients are recognized for their exemplary social justice work or volunteering for a cause. These individuals are deemed to be role models when it comes to serving the community, and the world in general.
Five finalists are given a $10,000 grant to go toward the work that they do, and Do Something provides them additional support and media attention. The grand prize winner receives a $100,000 grant to further their cause.
Celebrities are also honored for their commitment to charitable causes. Past celebrity award honorees include Lea Michele, for her animal activism, and Jennifer Hudson, for her work with underprivileged children.
