The Rockaway Youth Task Force is an organization that encourages young people to get involved in their local community activities. Begun by Milan Taylor at the age of 21, the Task Force assists the community in a number of programs including Grow NYC. Having been appointed to the Queens Community Board 14, Milan Taylor takes every opportunity to encourage young people to get involved in programs in their local community.
The Grow NYC program helps New Yorkers to develop sustainable resources, including neighborhood gardens and recycling programs. The Grow NYC program uses volunteers such as the Rockaway Youth Task Force to teach the community about environmental stewardship and recycling food scraps for compost.
Grow NYC helps residents to learn how to reduce the waste in their community and has been involved in creating vegetable gardens in all 5 of the New York City boroughs, including helping to create vegetable gardens in local schools to teach children the value of growing their own food.
